"Round 2" of artic cold air is sweeping much of
the U.S. keeping many folks tightly shut indoors. Our toleration of temperatures is interesting
when seen on Facebook posts. My southern
friends are freezing in 20-30 degree weather whereas that would feel like a
heat wave in my state! Those in the
Dakotas—how do you survive?
No matter where you live, being sequestered indoors poses
health risks from an unlikely source—namely disinfectants. We fear the spread of germs because of our
close encounters with people so we combat that fear with the use of
disinfectants.
I believe the word "disinfectant" when attached to
a cleaning product, or hand soap is really an oxy-moron…
WHY? … Namely…
TRICLOSAN. Triclosan
is the most common ingredient found in disinfectant hand soaps, and hand
sanitizers, hand dish washing soaps, as well as a host of other personal care
products, and much more.
Triclosan is THE "disinfectant" agent that is put
in our soap products, hand sanitizers, dish soaps, etc. This supposedly great chemical, is actually beginning to
be found to encourage germ power! Have you heard of "supergerms"? These are bacterial germs that are adapting
to their "environment" and are becoming resistant to antibiotics!
Every time you or your children wash their hands with
disinfectant soap or use disinfectant hand sanitizers, their skin is absorbing
triclosan and posing the potential for superbugs' resistance of antibiotics
should your children or you need them.
You would serve yourself and your family better by washing
up with plain soap and water.
Even the U.S. FDA advisory board would recommend simply using plain soap
and water for hand washing.
Ticlosan is found in so many soap products that going with
