I Need Space! Create a Personal Retreat.

Well, it’s Wednesday. Congratulations, you’re half way through the week!
Are you wishing the weekend was here NOW!

How can you find a little reprieve mid-week and not feel like you have to hold out for the weekend to roll around?

Let me encourage you to create a place of retreat in your home.  A place that is clean and tidy.  Small spaces make great retreat places, cozy nooks where you can be alone; regroup and relax, if even for a few precious minutes alone!

When my kids were younger, the bathroom was my escape place.  I would light some candles and take a nice, hot bath.  The bathroom was upstairs, away from the main living space and was also the room that was not cluttered with things like unfolded laundry, toys, and unprocessed mail or other paper clutter.

In our second home, the master bedroom was my personal retreat room.  The bathrooms in our second home were located in busy areas of the house and therefore were not very “retreat-friendly.”

We are now in our third home as a family and the kids are almost all out of the house (my baby is a Senior this year and the only one left).  I have converted my middle child’s small bedroom into my home office/reading room.  It is the smallest room in the house (except for the bathrooms), but it has become my new favorite room!

My retreat place:)
There is something to be said about coziness that invokes peace!

Create your own stay-at-home- oasis:

1) It needs to be a place away from distractions.

2) It needs to be a place that you have control to keep green clean and tidy; not dependent on others to keep it clean.
Remember, messy & cluttered spaces do not invoke peace, calm and rest!

3) Convert a walk-in-closet as a retreat space.

4) Make your master bedroom a place you LOVE to retreat to!

Am I just being selfish to want my own space?

I would say a strong, NO!  As a parent, you need some quiet time to detox from the day.  A place for inner rest-for mind, body, soul.  If you have even 15-20 minutes to yourself in a clean place, you will feel refreshed!

A refreshed You Is…able to handle the pressures each day brings.

A refreshed You Is…a more loving mom/dad, husband/wife.

 A refreshed You Is…a better employee/boss.

See why a quiet place to get away and unwind is valuable?

If you can’t “escape” a little every day, then make sure you can midweek.
Call it your “Wednesday Retreat”!
Spend at least 20 minutes alone and in a place you can unwind.

You’re welcomeJ

Do I Really Need to Disinfect my Home?

Why is it that temperature changes seem to bring on the sniffles and coughs?  How can you protect your family from those “bugs” that get you down and out?

As your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother probably say (or have said), “drink plenty of fluids and put on a pot of chicken vegetable soup!

Can you and I do more than that to prevent those “bugs” from getting into our homes?

Three Keys for Effective, Lasting Organization

I am a big fan of DIY shows!  I love to watch how a room or home goes from the “before” pictures to the “after” pictures.  Often on those shows you hear the clients say things like:  I want space for entertaining or open space to keep a better eye on the kids playing.  The common thread is:  Purpose.

Knowing the PURPOSE of your space IS FOUNDATIONAL for organization.
A starting question might be:  What do I need to be able to DO in this space?

After determining the Purpose of your space, your personality type helps to “color” the room.

Second key component for effective organization:  WHO ARE YOU?

For example; if you need to see everything in plain view, you’ll need to organize with see-through bins, open shelving and maybe even throw a peg board on a wall.  Do you like clear space?  You probably want to organize with storage solutions that hide away items.  Coffee/end tables with drawers, baskets with lids, etc.

Organizing a room should reflect Purpose and Personality.
If you don’t like it, you won’t use it --bottom line.

Third key component for effective organization is:  EASE OF USE
Is the placement of the items in your room within comfortable reach?

My family loves drinking coffee.  My living room is laid out to accommodate coffee mugs wherever someone sits.  Coziness and comfort mark my living space with throw blankets draped over chairs and tucked in the drawer of our coffee table.  I like to be able to see comfort (blankets on chairs), but I don’t want to see all of them!

Welcome to your newly organized space!!
Remember, it won’t stay beautifully organized without daily or weekly tidying up.  Regular tidying habits and using natural cleaning products will keep the space peaceful and healthy!

All-natural concentrate cleaners from Brightly Green help to ensure you have on hand the safe, green clean products you need for daily touch ups and weekly cleaning routines!

Labor Day Weekend: The Last Hoorah!

Labor Day Weekend:
the unofficial mark of summer season ending

Having grown up in Michigan, I remember many a Labor Day weekend trip heading “Up North.”  The end-of-season pilgrimage began after Friday’s work day as streams of travelers decked out with their RV’s, boats, bikes and other assortment of outdoor recreational “toys” --all heading North on I75 from the Detroit area to their wooded retreats “Up North.”

I enjoyed the journey north with fellow Michiganders (barring any road construction activity).  Now, as an adult, the Labor Day weekend pilgrimage continues with my children.  We load up the kayaks, and bikes; heading “Up North” to visit family.

Traditions can be great family builders.  Enjoy them!

If you have a tradition of packing up the RV for a final summer weekend trip, be sure to stock the RV with nature-made, non-toxic cleaners.  Protect the environment you enjoy visiting by cleaning your RV with 100% plant-based cleaners.
