Tip #1: Take Inventory BEFORE heading out the door
- Sort out last year's school clothes; some may still fit for this year. What does not, give to charity.
- Collect last year's school scissors, markers, pens, etc. and determine what can be reused this year. Is a new ruler really necessary? After all our units of measurement have not changed!
- Paper Products: Make a collection of what you still have around the home; this again helps you gage your true needs.
- Paper Products: look for 100% post-consumer materials
- Pens & Pencils: there are various biodegradable pens on the market today, and pencils made from recycled material or from responsible forestry
- Clothes shopping: start off a new tradition by beginning to look at resale/thrift stores first
- Pack-a-lunch: You have control over the health of your child--provide locally grown/organic food choice options for your son or daughter.
- Reusable lunch boxes: Reduce paper waste and help keep foods at the temperature you desire.
- "Snack/sandwich taxi": An ingenious, green idea that eliminates plastic sandwich/snack bags.
