Purposeful Green Homes: Part Two

When family or friends come over to your home for a visit, are you the kind of person who apologizes for the way your house looks?  Do you talk about how you need new furniture, curtains, etc.?

We are continuing to look at creating purposeful homes as was begun last week.

Maybe you are thinking…. I don't have a purpose for my current residence because I am waiting until I live in _____kind of home.  If you are holding out for some future place to really call home-- what makes you sure the "next place" will be IT?  Don't let your current residence rob you from peace and contentment in the present!  Learning to find contentment in your current house is of great value.

The effects of having a purpose for your home as opposed to not, are quite significant...

Purposeful Green Homes

CC BY 2.0

Not too long ago my children stumbled upon a documentary on Tiny Houses.  I happened to be walking through the room as they were watching it and my attention was caught.  I sat down and began to watch it with them.  There was something very intriguing in the idea of living so simply and intentionally.
Each person interviewed in the documentary had a purpose for their home and the space within. For many of those tiny home dwellers, much thought was put into the switch to living small and simple.  Some had a series of downsizing they went through before moving to the tiny house on a trailor. Each person interviewed, however, had more of a sense of peace about life.

Green Cleaning Inspiration

"Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations."
                             –Faith Baldwin

Efficient use of your time requires looking at root causes of time wasting.

Efficiently organized homes take less time to green clean.

"If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable."
                                            --Lucius Annaeus Seneca

How do you want your home environment to look and feel?  What do you want it to say to the person who enters your home?

Every room should have a purpose and everything in that room should be there on purpose.

Adopt a "daily walkabout" to straighten your home at the end of each evening. Ending your day in a peaceful organized setting will help you get a better night's rest!

Turn Dreams Into: Mission Accomplished!

"Our lives are not defined by the things we possess.  Our live are defined by the things we pursue."
                                                                                                                                               ---Anonymous

If you could see yourself one, three, five, even ten years from now, what you like to have accomplished?  What dreams and aspirations do you have? Would accomplishing these dreams or wishes enrich your personal life or grow your business?  If you see them as enhancements, what may be holding you back from those dreams becoming a reality?

Make Spring Cleaning a Launching Project

Are thoughts of summer vacations, rooms to remodel, places to visit dancing in your head?  Move those thoughts from your head into a project list and seriously work through the viability of doing those things.  Some of us spend more time thinking and dreaming instead of acting on those dreams or projects.

Let Spring Cleaning be a launching project from which you model how to plan and organize other things you want to accomplish, but never seem to get around doing.  Turning your spring cleaning project into a time-ordered task may give you the boost you need to order other projects you would like to accomplish but don't know where to begin.

Hello, I'm Brenda and I write for Brightly Green.  As a busy mom and professional, I have found it helpful when tackling a project to set a target date for when I want to be FINISHED.  No, I don't set a BEGINNING date; but a FINISH BY or DUE DATE—so to speak.  If I had a ''starting date," I may drag on my project too long.  It is more helpful for me to have a "due date," to keep me motivated and on target.

My daughter has asked me, "Mom, when are we going to start spring cleaning?"  I told her after I finish my current project, then we would plan for our spring cleaning.  I know for myself that taking on too many projects at once will result in nothing getting done, or not done well.

You know yourself, pace yourself.  Look at your calendar and set the "finished by date" for your spring cleaning and other projects in a timely sequence.  Allow breathing room—margins in your life too!

Green cleaning is a part of living green.  Living green is also about enjoying life, keeping things simple where we can and pacing ourselves.  There is a rhythm to life that is freeing when we find it!

For you, maybe green spring cleaning would best be accomplished after your children's spring break.  No problem.  When you get back, then consider when you want to tackle spring cleaning and set a target "finish-by date."  Be sure to order your Brightly Green products (on Brightly Green Home Store) shortly after setting your date so that when you begin to clean, you have everything you need to get started!
