Five Ways to Relax During the Holidays

The buzz question I hear quite often is, "Are you all set for Christmas?"

A neighbor of mine just asked me that question today when I ran into her at the grocery store.  She talked about how stressed she is as she works many days this week and will only have Thursday to finish up her shopping-- getting her "all set for Christmas".

The Christmas season—a season of joy and celebration—seems too often to be one of the most stressful times of the year!

Does stress creep up and nip at you?

Are you tired of being tired and stressed out during the Christmas season?

Take a few moments to thoughtfully consider adopting at least one of our suggestions for relaxing during the holidays.

Don't assume it is impossible or impractical for you!  Ask yourself how much do you want to be free from the pressures and stress of the season?

….I thought so…read on!

5 Relaxing Tips for the Holiday:

1. Lighten up on yourself! Adjust your expectations.  You don't have to have every decoration up.   You don't have to bake "X" amount of Christmas cookies.  No one will be looking to point out what you have not done for Christmas.  Your family and guests will appreciate all that you have done.

2. Stop over-committing!  It is OK to say "No".  Prioritize the commitments you have made and release yourself from one of them, if at all possible—for your health's sake!  If you feel you cannot be removed from any commitments you have made at this time, look for someone to help you! Make a commitment to yourself to stay rested and healthy.

3.  Protect your family time!  Are the kids feeling left out because you are running yourself ragged?  Do you wish for a slow-paced evening with the family?  Review tips one and two and then block out time on your calendar for a relaxing family time.

4. Do something YOU LOVE every day!  Put the ear buds in and head out for a walk.  Soak in the tub.  Read or listen to a book for at least 15-20 minutes a day or a chapter a day.  Personal "down time" is essential for healthy living!

5.  Treat yourself to lunch or dinner with a friend.  It can be refreshing and lift your spirits to spend time with a dear friend!

--wishes you a stress-less Christmas!
