Brightly Green Monthly Guide to Green Cleaning and De-Clutttering

Could you use a month-by-month plan that prioritizes key areas you should focus on green cleaning and de-cluttering?  If you answer, “Yes,” you’re in luck!  We have compiled a list of projects that are fitting to the month and season of the year. We want you to be successful in maintaining a Brightly Green Clean home! Included in this green cleaning planner are specific home maintenance tasks to complete each month. 



Let’s get started!

Begin by having the “tools” you need to properly green clean your home.

JANUARY.
Green Clean:  Clean out refrigerator and freezer.  Interior surfaces can be wiped clean with a dampened rag and either Brightly Green Hand Dish Wash or Brightly Green Multi-Purpose Cleaner.

De-Clutter:  Organize board games, sort through games making sure all pieces are there.  Donate games you no longer use.

Home Maintenance:
Prevent ice dams.  Use a roof rake to remove snow after each storm

FEBRUARY.
Green Clean: Organize bookshelves.  Take all books off shelves use Brightly Green Wood Floor Cleaner to dust bookshelves.  Simply spray Brightly Green Wood Floor Cleaner on a cloth and wipe surfaces.  Return favorites to the bookshelves.  Donate the rest.

De-Clutter:  In your movie-watching zone; remove movies you no longer are interested in.  Dust, vacuum and sweep the area clean.  Add comfy throw blankets on chairs and couches for snuggly, movie watching timesJ

Home Maintenance:
Winter is the perfect season for interior painting projects.  Don’t put off for the summer a perfect winter job.

MARCH.
Green Clean: Refresh entryway.  Thoroughly wipe down painted walls with Brightly Green Multi-Purpose Cleaner, wood walls wipe down with Brightly Green Wood Floor Cleaner. 

De-Clutter: Remove winter accessories from entryway.  Wash mittens, hats and scarves with Brightly Green Laundry Wash then store winter outerwear for next season.  Wash boot trays and add clean river stones to the trays making them ready for rainboots and Spring showers.

Home Maintenance: Check exterior drainage.  Clear any debris to allow proper water flow away from the house.

APRIL.
Green Clean: Sweep front porch. Wipe down any cobwebs in corners of overhang. Wash front door with Brightly Green Multi-Purpose Cleaner.  Wash exterior windows with Brightly Green Glass Cleaner.

De-Clutter: Clear out the cabinet under the kitchen.  Discard old sponges and organize your green cleaning products.  Wipe all surfaces in the cabinet, including the trash can (exterior/interior).

Home Maintenance: Inspect window screens, making necessary repairs.  Do you have a fireplace?  Schedule a chimney inspection now.  Any necessary repairs can be scheduled with greater flexibility in the spring and often at discounted rates! Also, masonry work needs to be done when temperatures are warmer so mortar can properly set.

MAY.
Green Clean: Get the grill ready for the new grilling season!  Clean racks and outside surfaces with Brightly Green All-Purpose Degreaser. 

De-Clutter: Every room can become a place of clutter if not attended too and the laundry room is no exception.  Organize shelves, and cupboards, discarding used products.  Items that are out of place should find their proper homes.

Home Maintenance: Inspect walkways for safety.  Repair areas that have been damaged by the season of freezing and thawing.  Order new gravel for the driveway. 

JUNE.
Green Clean: Descale faucets throughout the house.  For shower heads: pour Brightly Green Daily Shower (in concentrate form) in a plastic baggie and place bag around the shower head.  Secure with strong tape such as duct tape.  Leave on the shower head for a couple of hours.  Remove baggie and wipe shower head clean.  Kitchen and bathroom faucet areas can be descaled by pouring Brightly Green Daily Shower Cleaner on rags that have been placed around faucets.  This will remove any buildup around the faucets.  If you want to descale the kitchen and bathroom faucet heads themselves; do the same process as you do for the shower heads.

De-Clutter: Organize and put away school papers and supplies.  Give the garage a thorough sorting.  Get rid of unused and unwanted sporting equipment, etc. 

Home Maintenance: Revive your deck with a good power washing.  Repair/replace any damaged boards and re-stain.

JULY.
Green Clean: Spruce up your lawn furniture by wiping it clean with Brightly Green All-Natural household cleaning products.  For plastic furniture clean with Brightly Green Multi-Purpose Cleaner.  Wood furniture can be cleaned with Brightly Green Wood Floor Cleaner (spray on a clean rag and wipe furniture). 

De-Clutter: Weeds are a type of clutter, right?  Clean out your flower beds and sharpen up your curb appeal.

Home Maintenance: Inspect your fences and make repairs were necessary.  Could you use some added shade in your outdoor living area?  Now’s the perfect time to make that happen.

AUGUST.
Green Clean: It’s back to school time and that means getting the entryway washed and scrubbed so it is ready to handle the backpacks, jackets and after school sporting equipment. 

De-Clutter: Head to the kids’ bedrooms and go through their dressers and closets.  It’s time to see what fits and what does not fit.  While you’re at it, can the kiddos pare down a few of their toys? 
Less objects = faster cleanup.


Home Maintenance: Finish any outdoor projects that are incomplete before Fall sets in.  Set up an appointment to have your furnace inspected in preparation for the upcoming colder seasons.


SEPTEMBER.
Green Clean: While the temperatures as still moderate, wash interior and exterior sides of your windows with Brightly Green Glass Cleaner.  Wipe down windowsills with Brightly Green Multi-Purpose Cleaner. 

De-Clutter: Labor Day Weekend usually marks the end of summer vacation.  Upon your return home from that last camping trip for the season, de-clutter the RV and get it winterized.

Home Maintenance: Remove window air conditioning units and add weather stripping where needed.

OCTOBER.
Green Clean: Give the grill some TLC before storing it away for the season.  Wipe off racks and outside surfaces to a sparkling clean with Brightly Green All-Purpose Degreaser.

De-Clutter: Create a gift list for the upcoming holiday season.  This will help your mind stay clear and clutter free so you can make wise, deliberate purchases.

Home Maintenance: Clean out gutters and downspouts.  This simple set is paramount toward protecting your home from water damage.  Inspect your snowblower, if you have one.

NOVEMBER.
Green Clean:  Deep clean your bathrooms in preparation for holiday gatherings.  Launder your fancy table linens with Brightly Green Laundry Wash.  After ironing them (if needed) roll up the linens on old wrapping paper tubes to prevent them from wrinkling.

DECEMBER.
