Making Life Work!

"When your home works, your life works", from previous guest blogger, Rachel Papworth.  In her article titled, "Make Housework Easy", Rachel went on to share that "in a decluttered and organized home you can lay your hands on anything you need quickly and easily", AND "you no longer buy stuff to replace the things you can't find".

Your garage is an extension of your home, right?  So let's get it under control too! Read on for the continuation of Brightly Green's Comprehensive Spring Cleaning Guide.

Sharron McAdams, President/Owner of HGLabs says:  prioritze, organize and systematize!  She believes in tackling the dreaded projects first.  Organize your plan of attack, (we help you below).  Systematically work at the project until it is finished.  To read more of Sharron's wonderful de-cluttering  tips you'll want to read one of our previous blogs titled, "Have You Had it With Clutter".

Take a GOOD LOOK at your garage.  What seems to be the reasoning it is cluttered?

Do you live with pack rats?  Is there a lack of storage?  A combination of the two perhaps?

Attack Plan:

  • You need three large boxes.  Label them:  "Broken/Discard", "For Keeps", and "Garage Sale or Charity".  Begin going through the "stuff" and placing the items in the appropriate box. (You will probably need more boxes...these will get you started!)
  • Looking at what is in the "For Keeps" box, determine how you can best organize that stuff?
  • Look at the available space you have, the amount of money you have to work with (to purchase possible shelving/totes/bins).
  • Envision what you need and do a little research on garage shelving.  A store like Home Depot will carry organizational items from pegboards, work benches, free standing shelves to wall mounted or ceiling mounted shelves and tool cabinets.  Remember to stay within you budget.  Don't forget to check out garage/estate sales, internet sales such as Craigslist or eBay!
  • Before bringing in the new or repurposed shelving, clean out the garage from top to bottom.

Clean Up Time:
