Putting Your Home on the Market??

Maybe you need to put your home on the market this year; if so, what would it take to get your home ready?  The trend is going toward energy efficiency, as well as toward making our homes more environmentally friendly.  Before doing major home improvements consider the following…

Take an honest assessment of your home.

If you were a potential buyer of your home—what do you currently like about your home?  (Make a list.) Remember to be as objective as possible with yourself when making these observations.

What do you currently not like about your home?  Be honest!

Of the what you do not currently like about your home--make a list then follow that up by making two new lists:  1.) “To Repair”  2.) “To Replace”.  Before doing any of these changes…

Check with a local Realtor

A local realtor knows the market in your neighborhood and can let you know if he/she sees value or not in doing any major remodels.  After all, you do not want to soak a lot of money into your home if you are not going to be able to get a good return on your investment.

Make environmentally friendly choices

Where does your home need to run more energy efficiently?

For example, as you assessed your home—did you find it to be drafty?  Is your furnace over 20 years old? This could mean you might want to consider purchasing an energy efficient furnace. Do you have leaky pipes anywhere?

Saving the use of electricity, gas and water consumption are three KEY areas to look at when making your home more energy efficient and in turn, environmentally sensitive.

As you’ve discussed with a realtor the ideas of major home improvements and perhaps found them to be beneficial; then consider using green products in the renovations.

As stated earlier, energy efficiency is a growing trend as well as making green home improvements.  These types of considerations and changes in your home could mean the difference between your home selling or the one down the street!

Any repairs or replacements should be done with the energy efficiency and the environment in mind.

In the meantime… keep up with your regular green cleaning schedule.  Keeping your home clean with Brightly Green All Natural Cleaners’ sustainable,non-toxic cleaning products are important for the wellbeing of your family, your home and your sanity (when you do go to list the house).  You may get asked in a short amount of time to have your home shown so you’ll need to be green-clean ready!
