Creating a Simpler Holiday

What would be most meaningful for you this holiday season?  Chances are what came to your mind was not a particular item you hope to receive for Christmas but about relationships.
So how can you do things differently to reflect what truly matters to you?  PRIORITIZE and learn to say "NO."  But...you don't understand?  --keeping reading!

Prioritize your holiday events so you do not become frantically trying to attend everything.  What matters most?  Make a list!   Then choose the top five on your list and assign them tentative dates to do those activities.
Prioritize school holiday concerts, maybe you do not personally enjoy a crowded gymnasium, but you want to support your child; add the top school events to your calendar.   Other peripheral school holiday happenings, like cookie exchanges, could be let go of this year in order to have a simpler holiday.

Prioritize work-related holiday get-togethers.  What are the essentials/non-essentials? Cut back on which ones you will attend.  Don't be afraid to say "no".

Prioritize your travel!  Rather than trying to get to all the expected family gatherings on the same day or two, alternate which home you will visit for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.   This is a system my husband and I worked out and it has been working pretty well.  I know of some families that are ragged by the time Christmas Day is over, simply because they were making sure they covered all the parents and in-laws homes on the same day.  They come home with grumpy kids and are all stressed out.  If that story sounds like yours, do something to make a change!

Prioritize personal space!
At least one evening a week throughout this season, give yourself a break!  Create margin of time for you to be alone, or to go out with your spouse or a friend, just because!
Enjoy dinner, or a movie, a walk in the park,  or whatever helps you just to "breathe" and unwind.
