The Beginnings of HG Labs: A True Green Company

Have you ever noticed that within every story there is another story?  That "inner story" or rather-prequel; helps make sense of the main narrative.  Often there are many twists and turns you would not have expected leaving you with thoughts of, "Oh, that makes sense" or "Ok, now I understand."

HG Labs' beginning had its own unique origins.  Did you know it was started by a grandmother?  This begs the question, "Why?"  A grandmother starting up her own green cleaning product company does not happen out of the blue!  So what set her on this path toward creating HG Labs?
We'll let HG Labs' founder/owner/president, Sharron McAdams tell us her journey…

I owned a personal training company for twenty-five years and stressed to my clients the importance of a healthy diet, practical fitness plan as well as an overall healthy lifestyle.
After an accident that resulted in a broken back, I was unable to continue personal training.  I sold my fitness company and decided to work on getting my fitness "back."  While in recovery I began thinking of a new venue in which to pursue healthy living.  I was growing concerned about the toxic environment around me.  Many family members of mine had been devastated by cancer and I knew some of the products we were using could be part of the problem.  I decided to utilize the resources of my husband's company to start a company with all-natural, non-toxic household cleaners—and HG Labs was born!

I started with six products and approached my local Whole Foods Market in Louisville, KY.  After putting my products under a microscope, for authenticity, purity of ingredients as well as effectiveness, Whole Foods Market decided to my products.  They were a success and other Whole Foods Markets in our region began to offer our products too.  Twenty-six Whole Foods Markets in all began to carry them.  We had more requests for different products for different surfaces so we added more products and after exhaustive testing we had twelve in all to offer.
Interestingly, and to our dismay, we found that at the time about 60% of customers purchasing healthy, organic groceries from Whole Foods Markets thought "green cleaners" were too expensive and not as effective as the toxic products on the market.  Hopefully we have helped to dispel that idea.  Our products are not only the real deal they are as good or better than the toxic products, they are affordable too!

After the success we had with Whole Foods Markets, many green cleaning companies approached us with a need to use our products too.  They wanted products that assured them they would not be green washing.  We decided concentrates made more sense because they were more eco-friendly and less expensive to ship and use.  Shipping water across the USA did not seem like a very green idea!  This has been well received and we are promoting companies that use our products to help get the word out that these companies care about the environment as well as their employees.  Not to mention the health of their green customers and their pets!

We look forward to continued success formulating eco-friendly, cleaning products and helping our environment to be healthier and less toxic!  We are proud that we use our blogs, Facebook and Twitter to promote not only our products but ideas and concepts that further encourage healthy living.  Here at HG Labs we are thankful to our many customers and the green cleaning companies that use our products who help to spread the word on being green!
