There is nothing as refreshing to inhale than crisp, cool air! I don't know about where you live, but Midwest mornings and nights are now filled with that crisp, cool air. We want to share with you in this blog post some helpful tips on improving the indoor air quality in your home and business. The following tips are both natural and economical--helping you breath more easily!
Grease up those elbows!
Believe is or not; good 'ole fashion cleaning goes a long way in helping to reduce toxic buildup in your homeand office. Various products within your home or office "shed" chemicals over a period of time, sending them into the air. The main type of toxic chemical "shed" is flame retardants. These chemicals are found on everything from furniture, electronics, plastics, fabrics and more. The toxic chemicals attach to dust particles that float in the air and then settle.
Weekly dusting, vacuuming, and sweeping go a long way toward keeping your home and office under control from these nasty chemicals.
Use the following all-natural cleaning products to fight against toxic chemicals in dust:
- Brightly Green Wood Floor Cleaner--natural way to also dust furniture and wood floors
- Brightly Green Granite & Tile Cleaner--for tile floors and linoleum
Allow the outdoor air to come in and bring fresh, cleaner air into your home (even if only for a half hour each night)! Opening several windows in a room will allow old stagnant air to be sent out an opposite window! You know the saying, "Out with the old, in with the new"! Get that stagnant, toxic air out and let in fresh, cleaner air!
Change Home Filters:
Changing your furnace, vacuum and stove-range filters also help to improve the quality of your indoor air. Be disciplined to do this, even if it means marking your calendar months in advance when to change the filters.
Purchase Indoor Houseplants:
NASA did a study a while ago that showed the helpful effect particular houseplants played in absorbing toxic chemicals in the air. Not only can this be another source to help cleanup the quality of your indoor air, but it can lift your spirits to have fresh, living greenery in your home or office; especially as winter will be coming around the corner. If you have young children in the home, ask your pediatrician if the plants (found in the study: "15 House Plants You Can Use As Air Purifiers") are safe around your children. Some plants' leaves are toxic if ingested. Also if you have pets in the home, please check with your veterinarian if the plants are safe around animals. In some cases you may be able to hang the plants from a hook, thus keeping them out of the reach of young children and or pets.
Filter-based Air Cleaning Systems:
Don't have a green thumb? There are electric filter-based air cleaning systems that can pull out of the air and trap larger particles such as pollen or mold. Some can be effective at removing these larger particles. Look for one with a HEPA filter and fan-based. Also, "be sure it has a CADR certification (cleaning air delivery rating)"--states Dr. Shelly Miller (air quality researcher @ University of Colorado).
While some of these tips may seem ordinary and commonplace, isn't it the simple things in life that make a big difference? So keep up your all-natural cleaning regiment and get those windows open! ---to your health!!
