INTRODUCING:
HG LABS HOLIDAY PLUS SPECIAL EVENT NOTEBOOK
Last year we began a series of blogs that counted down to Christmas with our HG Labs Holiday Notebook. As promised, this year we are adding extra tips and suggestions to help your events run as smoothly as possible.
To start with we are adding a special section on "Life Events"! We all have milestone markers worth celebrating, whether it is another birthday or a new birth in the family, perhaps a wedding or an anniversary. Maybe its your first "real job" or "new home". All of these "Life Events" are worth celebrating!!
One simple (and yet seemingly forgotten) way to celebrate a "Life Event" is by mailing a thoughtful card. Yes, I did say mailing a card! Receiving a card in the mail tells you that someone took the time to look for it, purchase it, write in it, address it and mail it! You were on their mind throughout the process. Why--because you are special!
Yes we can send an e-card, but let's be honest which (in your heart-of-hearts) would you prefer to receive: an e-card or a card that was mailed to you?
So...why not get back into letting the friends and family members in your life know (in a new way) how much they mean to you by sending them a card or note in the mail! (The post office will appreciate you too!)
Maybe you already are a card-giver but tend to send out more belated cards than you would like to; that problem can be about to change!
Maybe you have never really sent out cards consistently before and would like to begin, we can help!
To Business Owners: Would you like to be on the cutting edge in reaching clientele? Consider sending a personal card or note to them. They will take notice of a personal note from you!! You know what type of card would be appropriate! Do the following steps to help keep you consistent in card giving to your clients. Also set up a card file for family and friends.
Follow these eight SIMPLE steps toward consistent card-giving and toward more meaningful relationships!
Step One:
Get a calendar or use the calendar on your computer.
Step Two:
Make a list of all the family members and friends you would like to send a birthday card or note to.
Step Three:
Mark on your calendar to send out the birthday card four/five days prior to the actual birthdate!! If the person receiving a card from you, lives in the same town as you then two days prior to the actual birthdate would be suffiecient for mailing the card or note.
Step Four:
This is where you can get creative!!
For example: traditional vs handmade
notecard vs postcard
personal handmade vs child-made card
Note: moms, dads, grandparents find cards drawn by and or written by children to be extra special!!
Step Five:
Purchase a basket or tote (one that will accomodate hanging folders--are recommended), and twelve folders.
Step Six:
Look through your list of birthdays for the upcoming month and purchase the cards/blank notes and or set up a weekend afternoon to let your child(ren) make up a bunch of drawings that you could print out and save for those celebrating a birthday within the next month. The goal is to plan a month out so that you will have all you need ahead of time and will not be making last minute runs to the store. (This will save you extra gas cost and save the atmosphere from added CO2 emissions.)
Eco-friendly card companies: seeded cards (cards that can be planted directly in soil)
bloomin
zazzle
Biodegradable cards by: (cards made from recycled materials)
pristine planet
Here is a fun idea: Recycle a card-- If someone is faithful to send you a birthday card...send it back on their birthday with a special note and see how long you can keep the card in circulation between the two of you!! (Requires a new envelop each time)
Step Seven:
Take an hour or two (depending on the amount of cards to go out that month) and fill in special messages to that card receipient. In pencil, mark (in the corner where the stamp goes) the date the card needs to be mailed by!! Place all the cards for the upcoming month in that month's folder in order of their dates.
Step Eight:
Keep the tote/basket in a very visible place so you will often notice it. It would also be a good idea to have the stamps necessary for postage in the basket as well.
Does this seem daunting to you? Don't let it be!! Think of it as an adventure toward better relationships!
Maybe you will want to start out with just family members birthdays instead of friends and family. Wherever you want to begin, start small and be consistent!! The key is to find a rhythm that works for you and be consistent in it!
Once you get the hang of doing birthdays, you can add anniversaries, "thinking of you" cards and more!
Decide what type of birthday cards you want to send.
For example: traditional vs handmade
