Not too long ago my children stumbled upon a documentary on
Tiny Houses. I happened to be walking
through the room as they were watching it and my attention was caught. I sat down and began to watch it with
them. There was something very intriguing
in the idea of living so simply and intentionally.
Each person interviewed in the documentary had a purpose for
their home and the space within. For many of those tiny home dwellers, much
thought was put into the switch to living small and simple. Some had a series of downsizing they went
through before moving to the tiny house on a trailor. Each person interviewed,
however, had more of a sense of peace about life.
I am not advocating that we all should live that simply, but
they do have something going for them that we could all learn from—purpose. Their homes had a purpose. Each home was built with a purpose and the
space within fit that intended purpose.
Have you ever thought about your home as having a specific
purpose? We believe that our lives have
purpose and should be lived to fulfill that purpose. Should our homes have a purpose too? Should our homes reflect something of our
beliefs and the way we live life?
Reflect on the following questions...
First: What is the purpose of my home?Second: In light of the overall purpose of my home, what is the function for each room in my home?
Over the next couple of weeks we will further discuss purpose and function for our homes and how to create a home environment that reflects your purpose.
