Organize & Green Your Holidays

Throughout the year we emphasize how to creatively organize your home for a simpler, greener lifestyle.  Let's take that theme into the holiday season!  The hustle and bustle of the holidays can throw us off our game, if we're not prepared!

Last year we introduced our HG Labs Holiday Notebook. This notebook serves as a help in preparation for the holidays.  We all want less stress and more ejoymnet of the season; organization is a large part of the plan.  In our HG Labs Holiday Notebook we help you organize everything from gift lists to party plans and holiday cleaning.

If you have not set up a holiday guide it is really quite simple to do.

Here is what you will need:

(This green holiday guide can be set up on computer or in a three-ring binder.)

On the Computer:

Is Halloween a big deal in your home?  If so, you may want to begin your holiday guide by setting up pages covering what you need for your party event. Next set up a spreadsheet for Thanksgiving.  You can make columns for food preparation plans, and favorite Thanksgiving recipes.  Another column would be good for organizing your green clean preparations for overnight guests.

Covering Christmas should include the following columns on your spreadsheet or create separate pages for the following categories:

  • People on your gift list (the gift to give will need to be determined by your budget!)
  • Budget (budget not only gifts to give, but food/party plans/decorations/travel)
  • Menus & Recipes-put your favorites here!
  • Parties & Entertaining (who to invite & what to serve)
  • Chrismas Cards (e-cards, homemade cards, seeded cards or postcards)
  • Traveling (hotel arrangements, airline tickets, travel purchases, etc.)
  • Cleaning schedules (prioritize the rooms according to events)
  • Receipts (hang on to if a gift exchange is needed--will need a small box or envelope)
  • Miscellaneous (for the extras worth remembering)

In a three-ring binder:

I happen to be the kind of person who prefers paper and pens to make my lists and plans on instead of the computer.  If you're like me, then using a binder may be the better approach to organize your holidays!

The categories mentioned above will be the dividers in your notebook.  Put about five sheets of paper after each tab division and you should be ready to get going.

Add a calendar to your notebook for quick reference and don't forget to attach a pen to your Green Holiday Organizer!

Put as many holiday events in your notebook that you would like to organize and get the jumpstart on a stress-less holiday season!

Green Cleaning:
Make sure you have plenty of Brightly Green All Natural, safe, non-toxic cleaners to get you through the holiday season. If you plan to do a lot of baking or cooking, order an extra bottle of Brightly Green All Natural Hand Dish Wash.  Are you expecting overnight guests or hosting holiday parties and meals?  Order extra Brightly Green All Natural Bathroom Cleaner too.
