Every household and office has a stand-by, ready for
anything, cleaner. It’s our “go to
cleaner” when we need to do quick touch-ups.
If stacked side by side, not every multi-purpose cleaner is created
equal—even among “green cleaners”...
With more and more households and offices taking a

to be careful even when it comes to choosing “green cleaners”.
So far, there has not been legislation passed to
protect the consumer from “greenwashing cleaners”. Greenwashing is similar to whitewashing a
fence. It looks like you’re “painting
the fence” but with very watered down paint and not at all of the true quality
of a “real painted fence”. Greenwashed
products may have a minuet element of natural products in them, but in reality,
they are far from being all-natural or safe for you and the environment.
According to EWG (Environmental Working Group) consumers
should read warning labels and ingredient labels carefully.
One of the worst “green” multi-purpose cleaners is “Simple
Green Concentrate All Purpose Cleaner”. According to “EWG’s 2012 Cleaners DatabaseHall of Shame”, this product is labeled as “non-toxic” yet if absorbed through
the skin it can damage red blood cells.
What
you can do to combat greenwashing:
Be
an informed consumer.
Read ingredient labels carefully to determine what
percentage of the product is all-natural.
Avoid products with warning labels that reveal the true colors (causticity)
of the product inside the bottle.
