White Christmas Tradition

As I began to think about holiday traditions, Christmas traditions in particular, I perused the web and found one unexpected discovery…

No matter where people live in the United States; in the North or South, East or West—most people have the hope deep down inside, that they will wake up to a White Christmas, even if their chance of getting snow is “next to nothing”.

This whimsical or nostalgic dream of waking up to a white Christmas even crosses the globe into Europe, according to John Fuller with "The Learning Channel".

There is something magical about fresh snow on Christmas day.  A blanket of snow on Christmas says, relax, cozy up with your family and enjoy one another!  Why not give in to nostalgia once in a while?

I remember the tradition as a child of getting up Christmas morning, and even before opening my stocking, looking out the window to see if it had snowed!  As an adult I am not as fond of Midwest snowy winters as I once was, but if it has to snow, then Christmas is still the best day for it!

Traditions are a gift for the heart and mind.  How many times have you gotten together with family and friends and someone began the conversation with, “Remember when…”

Traditions are a part of our fabric of life!

Faith is central to many people as I have asked them what tradition they have at Christmas.  Some have said that they have a birthday cake in honor of Jesus Christ’s birthday.  Before opening Christmas presents, families read the Biblical account of the Christmas story.

Special entrees for the Christmas dinner are looked forward to with anticipation.  While “having all the kids and grandkids together” are traditions for others.

If this is your “first Christmas together”, think as a couple what traditions you would like to create in your family!  Blending of traditions often occurs at first, then over time you’ll create some new ones as your family grows!

Wherever you live, I hope you have a Merry White Christmas!
